Who: Death From Above & Murray A. Lightburn
When: June 6, 2019
Where: The Phoenix Concert Theatre, Toronto ON
Death From Above returned to The Phoenix Concert in Toronto as part of their “Heads Up Is Now Tour,” celebrating the vinyl repressing of the Toronto duos’ 2002 debut EP Heads Up.
Murray A. Lightburn, of the band The Dears, served as the opening act before Death From Above took to the stage. While Lightburn’s solo acoustic performance can be seen as the antithesis of Death From Above’s driving dance-punk sound, the large crowd that gathered early responded well to the singer-songwriter’s extended opening set.
Jesse F. Keeler (Bass/Synthesizer) and Sebastien Grainger (Drums/Vocals) opened their set with the aforementioned EP, performing the extended play’s six songs at a blistering pace, in large part due to the release’s brisk 14-minute runtime. The band also performed tracks from their three full-length albums: You’re a Woman, I’m a Machine (2004), The Physical World (2014) and Outrage! Is Now (2017).
