Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

Hello! I’m Sara-Danielle, an Ottawa/Gatineau born Singer-songwriter, based in Montreal since 2011. I write songs about love and life, and I have a bubbly personality and a sensitive soul.

Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.

I describe my style as « Ginger-Soul », or « Ginger-Ale Pop » because it’s sweet and sparkling at the same time, soft but with a kick, like a Ginger-Ale drink. When I write music, I love to just play with my voice, see where it goes in terms of melodies and textures. I like to sing bribes of melodies on my phone, when I walk outside or when I feel inspired of the spot, and then work with it later on piano, find some chords to highlight it. Usually, I also know what the vibe is going to feel like, whether it’ll be a funky groove or a sweet ballad. For these upcoming singles and EP especially, I’ve worked with two close friends on producing and arrangements, to give life to these ideas in my head. In terms of lyrics, they’re very personal, introspective; when I write, it’s kind of like a healing process, realizing bits of myself and how I change and become different every day. I also write about how I relate to others on an emotional level and play with that in my songs.

Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?

I have one coming up in July 23rd at Casa del Popolo in Montreal, but that’s all for now! This winter I’ve been really focusing on my EP, recording, practicing, coordinate everything; I plan on doing shows this fall and next year, to show the world my new stuff.

If I had to explain my live performance, I’d say it’s an invitation into my mind through live music. I try to translate authentically to the public how I feel inside and how music makes me feel. I want people to be touched by my songs, to relate to them. I want to give them good music!

If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?

Given that my I only have one new song out, I’d say that one: Flawless! Because it’s what’s closest to who I am as a person and artist now.

Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?

So many great artists in Canada !!! I love Men I Trust, Daniel Ceaser, Charlotte Day Wilson, Milk and Bone, Jesse Mac Cormack, Les Louanges, Michelle Willis, Patrick Watson, Pony Girl, Titelaine, Klô Pelgag, Charlotte Cardin… I could go for a long time but these are the ones I listen to lately!
