Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

Hi! My name is Kalon Hart, and I am a singer-songwriter originally from Toronto and now based in Los Angeles. My name “Kalon” means “perfect beauty” and “Hart” means “male deer”, or its homophone, “heart”. I created this project because I wanted to write songs from my heart, and remind everyone that we are all perfect and beautiful.

Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.

I tend to write about love, emotional growth, spiritual awakening, and connection to nature, or some combination of those four topics. I try to keep my lyrics and chord progressions very simple and direct, with stripped-down guitar or piano accompaniment. so that they speak directly to your heart.   A lot of these songs I wrote simply for myself as I was trying to grow and work out my personal issues, but when I started playing them for my friends, the response told me I had to share them with the world.

Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?

I’m in the middle of booking a CD Release tour, and I’ll be playing Hugh’s Room in Toronto on July 11th, and Cafe Deux Soleils in Vancouver on July 31st.  Other dates to be announced soon! Someone told me recently that my show was almost like a guided meditation, because it was a very calm and intimate vibe that set up a deep emotional journey, and left them feeling like their heart was embraced.  I love that!

If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?

My favourite off the record is probably “I Think You Know”, which is a song about giving yourself permission to let go of emotional burdens.

Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?

One of my favourite Canadian singer-songwriters is also my neighbour – Jadea Kelly, she recently moved to Los Angeles and lives just a few minutes away from me. I am also a bit partial to a Toronto band called Lemon Bucket Orkestra because I used to play tuba with them, in a different chapter in my life.  Check out their live show if you want to dance until you drop!
