Today, innovative electronic PEI artist Russell Louder returns with an emotive new song, called “Light Of The Moon”. The track’s lyrics draw on the experience of seeing someone’s life become engulfed by an abusive relationship. You can stream/purchase “Light Of The Moon” here.
Russell explains the inspiration behind the song:
“Lyrically, Light of the Moon draws on the experience of seeing someone’s life become engulfed by an abusive relationship. This is a reality that, in recent years, has shown itself to be scarily universal, yet I notice that people are still quite afraid to address it, even more so when they’re personally confronted with it. There’s a dissonance there that I find very unsettling. I think, subconsciously, I was mirroring that dissonance in the production process, as the musical relationship between tension and release is a strong motif throughout the song.”
Russell was recently a finalist in CBC Music’s 2019 Searchlight competition, highlighting Canada’s best undiscovered musical talent. Earlier this year, Russell won a Music PEI award for Electronic Single Recording of the Year for their track, Showdown. Light Of The Moon” follows Russell’s previous single, “Cost Of Living”. Both tracks are a sample of what the multifaceted Charlottetown musician and producer has been working on. Watch a live session for “Cost Of Living” here.
