Five Questions With The Sunset Kids

Vancouver, BC-based The Sunset Kids are one of the newest signings at 604 Records, and it’s easy to see why the label decided to sign the duo.

On March 1, they released their debut single, “Fantasy”.

The duo shares on the single,

When we were writing Fantasy, we were very inspired by the controversial concept of multiple realities. How many people nowadays escape reality to chase their obsessions in some other worlds, like tv’s or computer games…But what if your obsession is unrequited love towards someone. Would you prefer to wake up alone or live happy in your own Fantasy?

Give “Fantasy” a listen below and find out more about Josh and Ellaya of The Sunset Kids in our newest segment of Five Questions With!

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

Sure. We are The Sunset Kids, a dream-pop band from Vancouver. Thank you for having us !!!

Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.

We both write music and lyrics sometimes separately, sometimes in collaboration. Our style was heavily influenced by our cultural backgrounds. We grew up on totally opposite sides of the world and were exposed to different music styles which we believe gives us the advantage to create something unique in our project. We blend in dream-pop style with folk, electronic elements, and 80’s style synth.

Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?

How would we describe our shows … Well, lots and lots of equipment, ha-ha. Most of the time we barely can fit into the stage (Joking…) But speaking seriously, our shows are not just something to listen and sing along to, but also to see. We blend in customized visual projections with each song we play on set, to create a special atmosphere. Expect lots of positive pumping energy, visual arts, and great tunes.

We’re currently booking dates for this spring and summer… so it’s all in progress … can’t wait to share them with you!!!

If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?

We are really excited for people to finally start hearing our music. We’ve been writing and recording over the last year, so it Feels good now to get ‘Fantasy’ out. Following ‘Fantasy’ we will be releasing a couple more singles… It’s hard to name a special song though…they are all special for us in a way…

Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?

Canada has amazing artists. To name a few favourites from the top of my head: Metric, Arcade Fire…
