Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Hi, I’m Emmett! I enjoy cooking spaghetti and browsing Kijiji. My favorite number is 20.
Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.
I’m really just trying to make interesting pop music and avoid repeating myself. I think I used to obsess more over the craft and rules of songwriting, but my process now is pretty intuitive – if what I’m doing feels good, it probably is good.
Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?
I like to think of my shows as loose, friendly environments where anyone can feel relaxed and have a nice time (anyone except me, of course – I’m lowkey panicking the whole time). The music is louder and a lot dancier than on the recordings. You can expect a run of dates coming later this spring.
If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?
“Pretty Mess”! Play it in your car, at the function, alone in your room at odd hours… it’s really quite versatile.
Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?
Mouth Breather, Maggy France, Alexia Avina, May Have, Finn Baird McConnell, Sam Eastman and
I’m Jenna, and I am the founder and editor of Canadian Beats. I have had a strong love for Canadian music, which started many years ago. I have a passion for promoting these talented Canadian bands and artists, and that’s how Canadian Beats came to be. I am so proud of what it has become over the last few years, with many talented music lovers and writers coming together to spread the word of Canada’s music.
