Saturday night was the fourth and final night of Halifax Pop Explosion. I had the opportunity to check out the acts at The Carleton as one of the Breakout West showcases—featuring artists from Western Canada, where I am also from! The lineup showcased Saskatoon Post-Punk band Chunder Buffet, Electro-Alt-Pop band The Royal Foundry from Edmonton, I M U R—an Electronic-R&B band from Vancouver, and Jaywood from Winnipeg—a musical artist and live band who experiments with various types and blends of genres.

I’m Shayla, and I was born in Saskatoon but moved to Halifax in 2013 for University, and since decided to stay here for a while. I recently received a Bachelor of Design, after studying photography for a year or two as well. I love everything about music and how it has the ability to bring so many people together from across the country and even the world. My passion for music is one of the reasons I moved East to pursue a photography and design career, as I would love to do graphic design and photography within the Canadian music industry.
