Kingston, ON-based group, The Meringues recently released a music video for their single, “Tell Me Twice”, which is off of the band’s self-titled album that was released on October 12, 2018. We caught up with Amanda and Ted for our newest segment of Five Questions With, so check that out below along with the new video.
Please introduce yourself to our readers.
We’re Ted and Amanda. We started the Meringues at the end of 2015 and are really excited to have just dropped our first, self-titled album. We’re based in Kingston, Ontario and are always looking to play new stages and new places. We love meeting fans and new friends at all of our shows. Feel free to come say hi!
Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.
Our music has a big tie to early punk influences and the attitudes that go along with punk music. With two lead singers, the dynamic in a lot of the songs comes from how we build up and break down of tension between us. A lot of it comes out in the live shows, but definitely in the writing and lyrical content as well.
Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?
Bar Robo in Ottawa, October 25
The Mansion in Kingston, October 26
The Mansion in Kingston November 30 (with new band members)
Our live show is heavily based on a theme of “tension and release” where we toe the line between what might be real and what might be an act. We push things to the point of almost total disaster, but always manage to keep it all on track. Sometimes audience members can’t tell if we’re fighting or playing.
If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?
The best place to start is at the beginning so it would be our very first single/video, and the first song on the album, “Tell Me Twice”
