Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
I am Collette Andrea and I am an independent singer-songwriter based out of Toronto. I have been performing across Canada for the past eight years and have two previous released EP’s titled “Luna (2012) and Steady Sun (2014). I am excited to announce the release of my first single “When I Was Young” off of my new unreleased EP titled “Thr33”, set for release in November 2018.
Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.
I love writing music because I feel the most present at that moment. I don’t ever plan to write a song, it usually just starts out as a random thought or feeling, and I immediately grab my guitar or a piece of paper and begin to write. I usually finish writing the song from start to finish in that same moment. I find that the music and the lyrics are written all at the same time, making it a smooth process for the song to be born! I find if I don’t finish the song at that moment, it usually will be left unfinished forever!
Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?
Over the past several years of performing, I have performed solo as an acoustic act. I love acoustic music and I have always enjoyed being able to pick up my guitar and go an play anywhere alone. I think my true nature is a solo artist, however, my latest project has been my new EP “Thr33” which features five full band style songs, and one solo acoustic live off the floor recording. In September of last year, I began working with my new band which includes Matt Wittmann (Bass) and Sean Wittmann (drums). I am transitioning into performing as a band, however, I will still be playing acoustically as well!
If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?
I would suggest my most recent song “For You” which was captured and recorded in a cabin in the woods. This recording was the first time that I really felt free to express myself musically, and really captures what I was going through at the time.
