The 14th Canadian Folk Music Awards have just announced their 96 nominees from across Canada, celebrating the depth of folk music in the nation. There are 19 categories of awards, and five or six nominees are chosen for each one. A two-stage jury process by 100 jurors across Canada determines the official recipients in each category. All of the nominees can be found on the website.
The awards take place November 30th – December 1st, 2018 in Calgary, Alberta at The Gateway. There will be two concerts open to the public over the weekend, and wristbands go on sale October 1st. Tickets are $35 each night, and will also get you into all workshops. Both nights can be purchased for only $60. The awards will be presented throughout both of these evening concerts. Keep an eye on the Canadian Folk Music Awards website for information on ticket sales.
I’m Shayla, and I was born in Saskatoon but moved to Halifax in 2013 for University, and since decided to stay here for a while. I recently received a Bachelor of Design, after studying photography for a year or two as well. I love everything about music and how it has the ability to bring so many people together from across the country and even the world. My passion for music is one of the reasons I moved East to pursue a photography and design career, as I would love to do graphic design and photography within the Canadian music industry.
