The Folk Music Ontario 2018 Conferences takes place September 27 – 30 at the Hilton Toronto Airport Hotel & Suites in Mississauga, ON.
This year, FMO is bringing in international industry experts and Festival Artistic Directors from around the world – from Estonia to Austin, Yellowknife to Berlin — providing attending delegates the opportunity to learn about new products and services for performers and presenters; interact with panelists during educational seminars and workshops; engage in lively round-table discussions and private meetings with industry professionals; and to celebrate recipients of songwriting and lifetime achievement awards.
To kick off its 32nd annual conference, Folk Music Ontario is delighted to present the FMO Celebration Concert ‘fun raising’ event on Tuesday, September 25 at Hugh’s Room Live in Toronto. Soul rocker Julian Taylor is headlining the night. Opening artists are Cécile Doo-Kingué and Nick Sherman. The fundraiser concert supports Folk Music Ontario as an Arts Service Organization, dedicated to supporting the growth and development of the folk music community and industry, and tickets available here $20 Advance / $25 Door.
The conference itself starts on Thursday, September 27, and the Registration Area opens at 2 pm for badge pick-up and program guide handouts. A conference registration badge is required for entrance into all FMO functions. The Welcome Reception is at 6:30 pm, followed by the first night of FMO official showcases, at 8 pm in the York and Mavis Ballrooms. These ballrooms are adjacent, and the start times are staggered every 15 minutes in order for attending delegates to have the opportunity to hear all showcasing artists. The always welcoming All Night Jam Sessions run from 11:30pm-2am in the Mississauga Ballroom Foyer nightly and are open to all.
On Friday, FMO kicks into high gear with breakfast for all (while supplies last) in – Mississauga Ballroom A & D, from 8:30-10:30 am. Highlights for the day include music and industry panels which start at 10 am; afternoon sponsored showcases beginning at noon, Lightning Talks (pre-register HERE), the FMO Awards Showcase, official FMO showcases, and the first night of the private showcases, which are held on the music floor. A map of all event locations (host hotel floorplans) is available via the FMO App.
