Le Festival de musique émergente en Abitibi-Témiscamingue (FME) takes place from August 30 to September 2, 2018. We are glad to chat with some of the performers in advance of the event. First off, we spoke with Boston’s Rockabilly band, Jittery Jack and Miss Amy and yesterday, we had a chat with Alexandra Stréliski. Today, it’s all about Quebec’s own Random Recipe, who you can catch at FME on Thursday, August 30 at Scène extérieure Desjardins from 8 pm to 9 pm. For more info, head HERE.
Is this your first time playing the FME?
No! We’ve played FME 4 times I believe. First time was almost 10 years ago.
Who are you looking forward to seeing perform from the festival line up?
Ouri, The Brooks, Hôtesses d’Hilaire, Hubert Lenoir, Louanges, Nakhane
How would you say playing a festival differs from a solo show?
its kinda like you’re on a first date. The crowd doesn’t necessarily know your band, so you really gotta seduce on the first impression. There’s also a lot of excitement in the air and a feeling amongst festival goers as much as artists that you are part of a special edition of something. People’s energy is already flowing with music, as they are going to and coming from other shows. Gotta make their pitstop worth it!
What are some things you think make this specific music festival great?
The fact that’s it’s up north hours away from Montreal or Quebec city where most of the Quebec scene is based. Everyone feels like they are on a road trip. Like it’s exotic or something. Also, it’s not only typical outside stages but venues around the town, walkable distance. The vibe around the entire city is great. They also really try to put forward up and coming artists, so it stays relevant to younger crowds which are the next generations of FME goers that will keep it alive or not.
If you were to headline a festival and create your own lineup, who would you choose?
We’d not only have bands but DJs and dancers, local and international, and anything that creates an authentic & energetic vibe! FOXTROTT, Wundergirl, Ouri, Naya Ali, Ana Tijoux, LeahMcFly(waackeisha), Dj Empress, Tassia Reis, Patterns, Heartstreets, Princess Nokia, Strange Froots, Nomadic Massive, Rubio, Sheila E.& Rhonda Smith, Chaka Khan, i mean obviously it would be a 3 days festival hahaha!
If you could pick a place to have your own music festival, where would it be and why?
Ain’t giving our idea away.
Explain your performance in five words or less.
Empowering slap in the face. (like not violent though haha!)
If you had to choose one song to recommend to a new listener, which would it be?
“Out of the sky”.
Are there any other major dates or festivals you would like to mention for upcoming shows?
In Montreal, we have a big show coming up at Corona Theater on October 3rd. In for we are mainly touring festival in Mexico, Colombia, and France this fall.
