Boots and Hearts Music Festival is right around the corner! It takes place next weekend at Burls Creek in Oro-Medonte. In advance of the festival we caught up with Newfoundland-based country artist, Jason Benoit to chat about the festival! If you are headed to Boots you can check out Jason on Sunday, August 12th as he performs on the SiriusXM Top of the Country stage. Be sure to stop by and say hello!
What’s the atmosphere like at a festival like Boots and Hearts compared to one of your regular shows?
Boots and Hearts is an amazing music festival… it’s so well organized and one of my favourite places to be. The country music aura is strong with this one!
If you could perform with anyone as a duet on the Boots and Hearts stage, who would it be?
It’d be awesome to do a duet with Jason Aldean! He was a big influence to me when I started writing contemporary country music, he’s great.
What’s your thought process before heading on stage and facing the crowds at Boots or any festival stage?
I just want to make sure everyone has a good time. At the end of the day, country fans come to these festivals to make memories and enjoy themselves. The more the crowd is hyped up, the more fun they have, and the better I perform – It’s a give and take relationship, I love it!
Do you have a favourite festival memory – as an attendee or a performer? What made it so special to you?
Performing at Cavendish Beach Music Festival this year in PEI! The place was packed and everyone was singing along. It was electric. These moments are extra special for the performers… it means we must be doing something right.
If you could put together an all-Canadian Roster to perform on the BH stage, who would you pick and why?
High Valley – because they’re my buddies and they rock
Wes Mack – because he’s my buddy and well… he rocks too
Charlie Major – a good old Canadian country boy, I know most of his songs… so great. We’re not buddies yet but maybe one day!
Lastly, is there anything you’d like to tell us about? New music? Tour dates?
I’m in the process of recording new music now, and also keep an eye out for a special music video for my latest single “Slow Hand” … coming soon!
Finally – thanks so much to the fans for being amazing this summer and always! Much love!
My name is Taryn and I am a writer and music enthusiast from Mississauga, Ontario. I am a graduate of Journalism/Media studies from the University of Guelph-Humber, and while I’m currently pursuing other career options, writing is still one of my greatest passions. And combining that passion with my deep love of music was an obviously easy choice. I’ve been writing with Canadian Beats for awhile now and I’ve loved every moment. When I’m not working or writing for CB, you can usually find me in the kitchen baking, writing, at a concert or travelling to new (and old) places with my favourite people!
