Jen Lane released her LP This Life Of Mine in 2016 but has since followed up with the release of a string of successful singles from the album. One of my favourite tracks on the album when it first came out was the opening track “Waitin’ On You.” I favoured the song instantly because of Lane’s amazing vocals and the style of the song. The track had a soft and sweet bluegrass feel that is sometimes lost in today’s mass blend of genres. Lane’s vocal performance on “Waitin’ On You” can be compared to some of the greatest female vocalists including the likes of Grammy award-winning artist, Alison Krauss.
You can check out the music video for “Waitin’ On You” from the An Empty Room series. The Empty Room is a music video series that features live off the floor recordings by select Saskatchewan artists. The series is produced in the Hague Gallery at the Creative City Centre in Regina, Saskatchewan. “Waitin’ On You” marks the sixth single released from This Life of Mine. Other singles include; “Shoe,” “Movin’ On,” “My Man,” “Never Try To Love You,” “Happy,” and the title track “This Life of Mine.” Lane was recently nominated for a 2017 Western Canadian Music Award for Roots Solo Artist of the Year and for a Saskatchewan Country Music Award for Roots Artist of the Year as well. Lane has also been selected to perform at MerleFest in North Carolina in April 2019.
Lane toured Canada from coast to coast numerous times to promote This Life of Mine including stops in almost most major cities and provinces. The tour helped deliver This Life of Mine to fans which charted on National College Radio for over 24 weeks, including reaching the number one spot on the National Earshot Folk/Roots chart. It also garnered substantial radio play on Commercial Country, CBC, and Satellite Radio. Lane took the time and performed on dozens of television shows across the country to promote the album. Lane has no current tour dates scheduled for the summer, but we know Lane likes to keep busy and bring her music to the stage as often as she can. Keep your eye on Lane’s tour page to make sure you are the first to know if she is coming to your town.
Music has touched my soul since day one. Whether it is performing or sitting down with some of the biggest names in music, I can always be found sharing my profoundly tender affection of music with anyone who will listen. Being a music journalist has allowed me to expand my knowledge of music and interact with some of my biggest childhood heroes. From days of radio broadcasting to sitting back, kicking off my cowboy boots and sharing my adventures with likeminded music fans online has been nothing short of amazing. Canada is full of true musical talent and I look forward to continuing to share my adventures in music with you.
