The 32nd annual SaskTel Saskatchewan Jazz Festival came to a close on Sunday evening July 1st 2018, with opener Mama Kin Spender, local opener favourite Bombargo, and headliner The John Butler Trio at the TD Mainstage at the Bessborough Gardens. The festival wishes to extend a sincere thank you to you to all the staff, volunteers, musicians, and music fans who make the SaskTel Saskatchewan Jazz Festival the resounding success it has been for over two decades!
The SaskTel Saskatchewan Jazz Festival is an international jazz festival that fosters, promotes and presents jazz music in its diverse forms to the people of Saskatchewan. The festival provides opportunities for the professional development of Saskatchewan musicians and a variety of educational experiences including the TD Jazz Intensive Education Program.
With over 137 free and ticketed shows over 10 days (only 2 free shows cancelled due to weather) at 23 venues, this year’s SaskTel Saskatchewan Jazz Festival drew in an estimated attendance at approximately 75,000 people. In tourism and positive financial impact, the festivals brings in over $8,000,000 to Saskatoon and area!

With the amount of diverse acts that appeared at the SaskTel Saskatchewan Jazz Festival, from the Flaming Lips, Tom Cochran with Red Rider, Matt Andersen & The Bona Fide and Kamasai Washington, there was something for every musical taste! And that was only on one stage!
As fans and musicians reflect on their #saskjazz2018 experiences and highlights, people are already planning their schedules for next year! The SaskTel Saskatchewan Jazz Festival is the official kick-off to Saskatoon summer events and becoming increasingly popular ever year! A huge appreciative “Thank You” to everyone who made this year’s festival a success!
The Riz is a prolific multi-genre songwriter, lyricist, writer and bassist for “Demolition Rock” sensation Ultimate Power Duo. A staple of the Saskatoon music scene, he has toured extensively across Canada, the U.S. and the U.K. The Riz is also the composer and saxophone player for R. Muttering, an avant-garde soundscape improvisational electro-acoustic performance art and recording group. Besides his Bachelor of Music in Music Education (B. Mus. (Mus. Ed.) / B. Ed. (Mus.)) from the University of Saskatchewan, he has amazing comic and vinyl collections.
