Toronto-based singer-songwriter, Cory Stewart has just released his new single, “Boyfriend Material”, which was written and produced by Stewart and JUNO award-winning musician Gavin Bradley (Nelly Furtado, Kylie Minogue, Tori Amos). His debut EP, Different Sides, which was released back in April, has been massively successful with radio play in Canada and over 80 000 streams and downloads to date. You can hear our Emma Sloan’s full review of his EP, here. Check out “Boyfriend Material”, below!
Cory has this to say about his new single:
“Growing up in a community where I had gasoline, cigarettes and rocks thrown at me while trying to just enter my high school, it feels liberating and empowering to release a song like Boyfriend Material. This song follows the story of falling in love in a same-sex relationship, a subject that desperately needs representation in not just the Canadian music industry, but in music around the world.”
We love Cory’s commitment to give voice to the issues surrounding the LGBTQ+ community. Cory is playing several Pride festivals this June, including recently at Toronto Pride on June 23. He will also be opening for Boy George & Culture Club in Montreal on August 25th.
I’m Nicole, a biology teacher by day, but my life revolves around music. I’m that girl that you will always find with the concert t-shirt on and ear buds in. It is rare that you find me without some type of music playing in the background. I connect all of my life experiences to music. It truly has its own language in my heart. There is nothing more exciting than taking in all that a concert has to offer. I love to support local Canadian acts and attend as many shows that I can.
