Review – Scotty Kipfer

Album: Taking My Time
Release Date: June 15th, 2018
Genre: Country

Scott Kipfer spent most of his career promoting and nurturing new artists before stepping into the spotlight to release his debut album Taking My Time. The Milverton, Ontario-born songwriter has been honing his craft for several years now; working in Nashville over the last two years with some of their top producers to help craft the 11-track LP. Kipfer’s past credits include creating lyric videos for big-name artists including Brett Kissel, and Emerson Drive; playing guitar for artists like Bobby Willis and Ryan Laird.

The multi-talented newcomer channels romance on tracks like “Falling Like the Rain”, a semi-autobiographical song (according to his website) about a guy who falls for a free-spirited girl and is pulled out of his shell to experience life with her; the charming folksy-country love letter in “Here For You” with a 90s flare.

The album includes two duets- sweet harmonies on “Long Way Home” with American Idol alum Janelle Arthur and the relatability of heartbreak on “No Good Way” with fellow Canadian artist Emily Reid.

The album’s mix of 90s nostalgic country and more modern pop/rock is really enjoyable; “Falling Like the Rain” as the lead single was the perfect choice to highlight the album – it’s an easy fit for modern country radio. Kipfer’s experience in the industry and his work in Nashville has certainly paid off. Here’s hoping he continues developing his sound and writing great songs for us to enjoy. Country music just gained an important up-and-comer.
