Winnipeg, MB-based self-professed nerdiest alt-rock band, Colour By Numbers released their second EP, Among The Stars last summer. Today, we are happy to unveil the video for the title track from the EP, “Among The Stars”. The video features co-lead vocalist, Alex Kozub singing karaoke to his own lyrics.
When asked about the video, Jared Adams states,
“Colour By Numbers has always been about having fun and not taking ourselves too seriously; I feel this video really captures the essence of that. The idea to do a comedic karaoke video came to me quite quickly, inspired by early Foo Fighters videos and my desire to see Alex in awkward situations. All joking aside, we hope people enjoy the video and the insight into who we are behind the music.”

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
We are Colour By Numbers, Winnipeg’s self-professed nerdiest alt-rock band.
Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.
We are heavily inspired by 90’s alt-rock bands such as Sloan, Weezer and Barenaked Ladies to name a few but we also take some inspiration from classic rock. Our music is pretty upbeat and usually full of vocal harmonies and ripping guitar solos. Generally, our writing style consists of members of the band bringing songs to rehearsals and then fleshing them out from there. Though lately we’ve been writing more as a group and have found that the song that come out of it are much richer and more complex.
Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?
We have a small Western Canadian tour planned for this summer at the end of July, hitting Regina, Saskatoon, Calgary and Edmonton. Our live shows are pretty high energy with a lot of dynamic changes on stage. It’s just good music that you can dance and groove to. We also tell some pretty lame jokes in between songs so that if the music thing doesn’t work out, we can always fall back on being a comedy troupe.
If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?
Probably “1982”, it’s a longer song but it covers a lot of ground sonically and gives a good cross-section of our music.
Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?
