The Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) is excited to announce that it will be returning, for a 9th time, to Canada’s country-music capital for Country Music Week 2019. Landing in Calgary, AB from September 5 – 8, the annual four-day event will culminate with the Canadian Country Music Awards broadcast on September 8, 2019.
Announced earlier this evening at a special ceremony at Studio Bell, home of the National Music Centre, this return will earn Calgary the title of the show’s most frequent host city. “We are so looking forward to being in Calgary next year,” said Tracy Martin, President, CCMA. “Our return to Calgary feels like a true homecoming and we’re eager to work alongside our Host Committee members to create an unforgettable experience for the city’s country music fans and Canada’s biggest country stars.”
“Hosting Country Music Week and the Canadian Country Music Awards is a great opportunity to showcase Calgary as a music city,” stated Cindy Ady, Chief Executive Officer, Tourism Calgary. “We cannot wait to be ultimate hosts of an outstanding Country Music Week and CCMA Awards for all Canadians.”
“We’re thrilled to be welcoming country music fans to Calgary for Canadian Country Music Week 2019. From the songwriters’ series and the ever-popular FanFest, to workshops and the CCMA Awards Show, it’s an opportunity to offer a warm western welcome to visitors and celebrate the many achievements in Canada’s country music industry” stated Ricardo Miranda, Minister of Culture and Tourism. “Alberta has been proud to host the CCMA Awards 15 times since the event’s inception in 1977, and I can’t wait to see what Calgary has in store for 2019.”
With this announcement, Calgary has become the only Canadian city to play host to the CCMA Awards nine times. Throughout its history as host city, Calgary has witnessed unforgettable performances by Johnny Reid, Shania Twain and Dierks Bentley. It was also the city in which 2018’s Hall of Fame recipient Terri Clark won her first CCMA Awards (Rising Star Award, Single of the Year, Album of the Year, 1996). These historic memories, together with exciting new programming and initiatives, will create a stellar launching point for the CCMA’s 43rd annual Country Music Week.
Before heading to Calgary, this year’s Country Music Week and the 2018 CCMA Awards will land in Hamilton, ON on September 6. The week-long festivities will culminate as Shania Twain steps onto the stage at FirstOntario Centre as host of the biggest night in Canadian country music, the CCMA Awards, on September 9, 2018.
