Review – Kieran Mercer

EP: Fools Gold
Release Date: May 25, 2018
Genre: Pop

After seeing Kieran Mercer open for label-mate Marianas Trench back in 2016, I jumped at the chance to review his new EP. I met him after his set and told him one day he’d be the headliner – and after hearing his new work Fools Gold I believe that more than ever.

The opening track “Friends,” is a song that sounds like it would fit right in on a Maroon 5 album. With the strong beat and Kieran’s smooth vocals, it could easily shoot to the top of any pop chart.

Next up is “Anarchy,” a summery bop with fun lyrics like “call our your friends let’s start a riot” and “sirens howling at the moon.” The catchy harmonies in the chorus make this song a must-listen.

The EP ends with “Skip The Line,” a jazzier track that perfectly encompasses the blend between vintage and modern that Kieran was hoping to achieve.
