5 Acts You CAN’T Miss at the Ska & Reggae Fest

With Victoria’s 19th annual Ska & Reggae Fest rapidly approaching, it was high time to count down 5 acts guaranteed to blow you away. With its variety of different venues, price points, and genres, the Ska & Reggae Fest has already cemented itself as a fantastic time, but its lineup is one of its biggest draws.

Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad: With a name like that, what’s not to love? The New York reggae group—who are also veterans of the world-famous Easy Star Records— are back to lay down their ‘hazy lovers-grooves’ this summer season.

Kingston Rudieska: Slow tempo not your style? Kick it up a notch with South Korea’s Kingston Rudieska, a high-energy, ‘throwback’ ska show that borrows heavily from first-wave ska. The coolest part? This will be their FIRST time playing on Canadian soil!

Freddie McGregor: Legendary vocalist and producer Freddie McGregor is here to deliver with his ‘silky-smooth’ reggae, and promises to be the standout vocal display of the festival.

Tribute to No Doubt: New to ska and reggae? Layer your festival experience in with some familiar pop music, delivered to you by some of the finest BC talent. Plucking musicians from bands Lovecoast, Dope Soda, Fox Glove, and more, people are already buzzing about this dose of nostalgia.

Ready to Rock Crew ft. Que Rock: This legendary Brooklyn hip-hop collective will be on hand to display their mastery of the many facets of hip-hop culture—a culture that shares many of its roots with reggae. With their fantastic stage presence, varied sound, and endless talent, this is an act that’s not to be missed.
