So far, we’ve spoken with Chris Ryan, Jason Benoit, The Redhill Valleys, Andrew Hyatt, Kristin Carter, Shawn Austin and Ian Janes. We’re wrapping up the fun today with our final interview. We had a chat with Calgary’s Leaving Thomas. Check out their video below for “Kiss About It” and find out more about this talented duo. Go vote for Leaving Thomas HERE. Remember, you can vote once per day for each market until June 6!
First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?
We are Bryton and Annika from Leaving Thomas! We best friends and have been performing as a together for the last 4 years or so now! Some of your readers may know us by our songs “Waiting Kind of Girl”, “Best Adventure”, or “Blame it on the Neon”.
You are in the semi-finals for SiriusXM’s Top of the Country music competition, how does it feel to be vying for the top spot?
It’s very exciting! This contest can open us so many doors for artists such as ourselves. The anticipation of who will make it to the next round is insane!
The competition features some incredible Canadian talent, what was your first thought when you found out you were one of the nine semi-finalists?
We were thrilled when we found out that we were going to be a part of the competition! We feel honoured to be competing against this incredible group of artists. We watched everyone’s videos and were blown away by the talent!
The winner will win the grand prize of $25,000, what would your first plan be for the winnings?
We are in the process of recording new music, so if we were to walk away with the grand prize, we would certainly use the $25,000 to help pay for the production of the record. It would also allow us to spend a little more time in Nashville, writing songs and connecting with the industry!
What are you currently up to in your career? Do you have any new releases or tours on the rise?
We kicked off our summer shows this past weekend in Regina, SK and are excited to be playing shows all over Canada! Performing is truly our favourite part of what we do and we can’t wait to get on stage and sing with our fans across the county!
We also have new music in the works, so we will be continuously working on that throughout the summer!
If you were to speak with a newcomer, what advice would you give them about making it in the music industry?
We would have to say, stay true to yourself, and perform as much as you can! It can take a while to find the sound that works best for you but staying true to who you are and what you stand for will be the quickest way to finding your authentic sound. Finding a producer who supports that is also very important!
We also are of the belief that you should perform as much as you can! We both performed at open mics, musical theatre shows, school talent shows, parties, corporate events, bars, coffee shops, cruises and the list goes on! All of these experiences have helped us hone our skills as performers and have helped us craft our live shows as Leaving Thomas.
Last but not least, is there anything you’d like to say to your fans who are voting for you daily?
A million times “THANK YOU!” It’s an amazing opportunity and being able to be one of the top three finalists would be even more amazing. We really appreciate the support of our fans voting every day! 🙂
