We’re taking some time to chat with some of the incredible performers at this year’s instalment of Heavy Montreal! The festival takes place in Montreal on July 28 & 29, at Parc Jean-Drapeau. Get your tickets HERE. Today, we are starting things off with Montreal’s NonHuman Era.

First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?

What’s kickin’ Canadian Beats? Carlo here, Guitar player and co/founder of NonHuman Era. We are a Progressive Metal band straight out of the 514 – MTL!

Heavy Montreal is back with a day-long fun-filled day of rock and metal music! How does it feel to be a part of the amazing lineup?

We are beyond stoked to be on this bill. Montreal is our hometown and this festival means a great deal to us. On top of that, we have the honour of performing alongside some of the greatest bands out there!

Have you taken part in Heavy Montreal before? If so, what was the highlight of your previous involvement?

This is our first time out. Heavy MTL virgins if you will haha!

The line-up for this year is great, is there one specific performer that you’re most excited to check out?

Definitely more than one. Rob Zombie, Gojira along with our buddies in Voivod and Necrotic Mutation. Gonna be a killer weekend.

Is there any band that you would have liked to see on the line-up for Heavy Montreal this year?

Hell yeah! Metallica, Soilwork, Motorhead (RIP Lem), Evergrey, Ozzy. The list goes on and on.

Are you performing at any other festivals this summer that you’d like to tell us about?

Not at the moment.

If you were asked to give an up-and-comer some advice, what would that advice be?

Stick to the music that moves you. Work on it and above all, remember why you did this in the first place… for the love of music! God dammit have fun with it.

Tell us about your first ever festival experience.

Rocklahoma May 2017. We had a fantastic time down in OK. Tornadoes and rainfall threatened our performance which was postponed to the following day. We ended up performing and having a great time with everyone who came out.

What’s up next for you?

NonHuman Era are slowly putting together pieces for a follow up to our self-titled debut album. Will focus mostly on that for the near future. Definitely got some heavy, atmospheric and progressive stuff surfacing. Stay tuned!
