Review – Michael Feuerstack

Album: Natural Weather
Release Date: May 25, 2018
Genre: Indie/Rock

Michael Feuerstack’s 25-year-long music career has reached its latest new high with the summer release of Natural Weather, his most recent full-length album. Lulling and lyrically complex, Natural Weather features a rich collection of Canadian talent including Jeremy Gara on drums, violin by Sarah Neufeld, and background vocals by Camille Delean, Michelle Tompkins, and Mike O’Brien.

The album is self-described as orbiting around “empathetic inquisitiveness as the songs relax into deep ambiguity around heavy themes: love, death, memory, age, mental illness, intimacy, and ambition.” The track “Nobody Knows”—whose official video is linked below— encompasses that entirely: like sinking into meditation, “Nobody Knows” is a coaxing lullaby that intrigues despite its slow pace. Feuerstack’s vocals are smooth and full-bodied and they shine through brilliantly in all 12 tracks.

Whether it be the folksy toe-tapper “You Worry Me” or the sultrier “Outskirts”, Natural Weather is a showcase of Feuerstack’s lyrical and vocal prowess that will wow even seasoned lovers of the genre.
