Toronto-based indie rock band, Wrong Jeremy has released a new single and video, “Untitled Love Song”, which you can check out below. While you’re at it, give our segment of Five Questions With a read and find out more about this up and coming band.
Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
We are Wrong Jeremy, a four-piece indie band with funk and blues undertones. We are proud of our ability to fuse the old sound with the new. Originating from the Toronto Area, we have our frontwoman, Angie Bhatia (lead vocals, piano and rhythm guitar), Preston St. Jules (lead guitar), Sarah Varty (drums/back up vocals), and Ali Abdelbadie (bass guitar). Wrong Jeremy will leave you craving lyrical rock ballads, funky grooves, and wild rhythms!
We have played venues in the GTA such as: The Horseshoe Tavern, Junction City Music Hall, The Rockpile, The Hideout, The Cameron House, The Opera House, and more. This year (2018), we have been named one of the finalists in The Bout competition at The Hideout (an old Toronto venue in a new location). Additionally, we played for Toronto’s 5/4 Prog Fest 2017 at the Rivoli- a Toronto classic!
Wrong Jeremy has opened for large touring acts such as Richie Kotzen, who played with Poison, Mr. Big and the Winery Dogs. Later this summer, we will be opening for Derek St. Holmes of Ted Nugent on his solo tour.
Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.
Currently, Angie writes all of our music, and the band collaborates on the arrangements. Her writing style is influenced by old and new alike: Alicia Keys, Stevie Wonder, Radiohead, Beethoven, Mozart, Steven Wilson, Reign of Kindo and many others.
Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?
We have a fun, down to Earth and interactive energy on stage. We play all originals with a few covers to pay tribute to artists who have influenced us as a band.
We have a few shows coming up – May 24 (The Boat, Toronto), May 31 (Lee’s Palace, Toronto), June 29 (The Atria, Oshawa). For our full list of summer dates, be sure to follow us on Facebook or Instagram at wrongjeremy.toronto.
If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?
We would suggest checking out our single Untitled Love Song. You can find it on YouTube (youtube.com/watch?v=tmbb0jhEV2o). The song is also available on iTunes, Google Play, and Tidal.
Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?
Like the Canadian musical landscape, we are eclectic in our tastes. We appreciate indie/rock bands like Mother Mother and Emily Haines & the Soft Skeletons. We also appreciate old and new rock ensembles such as; Rush, The Beaches, The Tragically Hip, Our Lady Peace and hip-hop artists such as; Shad K, K-Os, Mark Brathwaite and Kardinal Offishall are lovely too. The list is endless!
I’m Jenna, and I am the founder and editor of Canadian Beats. I have had a strong love for Canadian music, which started many years ago. I have a passion for promoting these talented Canadian bands and artists, and that’s how Canadian Beats came to be. I am so proud of what it has become over the last few years, with many talented music lovers and writers coming together to spread the word of Canada’s music.
