The SaskTel Saskatchewan Jazz Festival is proud to announce over 65 free shows during the 10-day SaskTel Saskatchewan Jazz Festival, June 22nd to July 1st, 2018.
Artistic director Kevin Tobin says, “As exciting as big shows like The Flaming Lips, Tom Cochrane, Ben Harper & Charlie Musselwhite, City and Colour, and Dee Dee Bridgewater are, the many free shows featuring musical gems such as BC Read, Oral Fuentes Reggae Band, Gillian Snider, Gerard Weber Quintet, Heidi Munro & the Real Groovy Band and hundreds more local musicians, showcase the tremendous talent we have right here in Saskatchewan. Today’s announcement brings the total number of performances to over 130 in 23 venues”.
Included in the announced lineups are the complete Nutrien Free Stage at Kiwanis Park North, the restaurant series consisting of local hot spots 6Twelve in the Sheraton Cavalier, Drift Sidewalk Café and Vista Lounge, 2nd Avenue Grill, The James Hotel, Finn’s Irish Pub in the Parktown, the Bessborough’s After Dark series, and pop-up shows sponsored by DTN YXE.
The free lineup is impressively local including Saskatchewan’s own Jack Semple, Denise Valle, Parab Poet & the Hip Hop Hippies, The Steadies, Tatrina Tai, Rugged Little Thing, and many more, in addition to national and international talent such as New York’s Red Baraat and Toronto’s The Slocan Ramblers.

With a swipe of a finger, SaskTel Jazz Festival attendees have access to information on over 130 shows. Festival-goers can organize their schedules, learn more about the artists, and stay up to date on everything they need to follow and cover for the festival.
New for this year, fans will no longer have to wait to purchase their Groove Series show tickets at the door! The SaskTel Saskatchewan Jazz Festival is offering advanced tickets and ticket bundles. With the purchase of three or more Groove Series shows, fans receive 15% off as part of the “Build Your Experience” bundle.
The Groove Series shows will be held at Amigos Cantina and the Capitol Music Club over the 10-day event. A few notable acts include Deerhoof, Moon Hooch, Sons of Kemet, and Ghost-Note.
Tickets for all shows are on sale now online, and at the Box Office located in the lobby of the Delta Bessborough Hotel. Hours are 10am-4pm, Monday to Friday. Festival hours from June 22 to July 1 will be noon to 7 p.m. daily.

The Riz is a prolific multi-genre songwriter, lyricist, writer and bassist for “Demolition Rock” sensation Ultimate Power Duo. A staple of the Saskatoon music scene, he has toured extensively across Canada, the U.S. and the U.K. The Riz is also the composer and saxophone player for R. Muttering, an avant-garde soundscape improvisational electro-acoustic performance art and recording group. Besides his Bachelor of Music in Music Education (B. Mus. (Mus. Ed.) / B. Ed. (Mus.)) from the University of Saskatchewan, he has amazing comic and vinyl collections.
