PREMIERE – sad child releases new single, “foolish”

sad child formed in July of 2016 consisting solely of former guitarist/ vocalist of indie punk band Clairvoyant, Hannah Edgerton writing and recording on multiple instruments. Today, we are psyched to unveil the new single, “foolish”, and give you a chance to learn more about sad child in our Five Questions With segment.

Hannah Edgerton shares on the single,

“The song“foolish” was written about a very personal and naive past experience in which I was listening to the judgements of other people around me so much so that it began to shape and control my creativity. It’s a song about liberating yourself, letting go of those toxic relationships, rising above situations and growing from them. You know what’s the point of pretending to be something your not when you can be organic and real it just feels so much better to be yourself.”

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

I’m a multi-instrumentalist currently based out of Toronto. I currently play bass in The Effens and am working away on my side project sad child in my spare time.

Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.

I’m someone that quite literally wears my heart on my sleeve when it comes to writing and it can be a process completing a song but I’m grateful to be able to express myself in a healthy way and to share those feelings with others. Being a multi-instrumentalist my writing is as chaotic as you would think but usually, I begin with either a guitar or bass riff and just start saying my thoughts out loud. Once I have a rough version of a song I usually take it to the studio and will record scratch tracks for bass, guitar and vocals and spend the rest of the day writing drum and or synth parts that fit.

Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?

At the moment I’m not playing live shows as I’m focusing on recording and releasing. Perhaps at some point, I might take this project a step further and form a band to help perform the songs live but at this time it’s still an in the works project.

If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?

Honestly, I’d suggest foolish hence why I’m releasing it as the single it is the most blunt side of sad child.

Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?

Currently, I’ve been listening to Bad Waitresses bold and defiant EP Party Bangers: Volume 1 and I can’t wait for Little Junior to drop their album Hi at the end of May. Casper Skulls, Luge and Poor You are also really great live bands to check out!
