Montreal’s Pouzza Fest takes place later this week from May 18-20 featuring some of the best punk music that’s out there! We’re happy that we’ve had the chance to count down to this festival with you. We started the countdown yesterday with Lost Love, and now the countdown continues with 5-piece punk band, This Is A Standoff.
First off, care to introduce yourself to the Canadian Beats readers?
Hi, I’m Steve and I’m from This is a standoff. We were a punk band from 2006 to 2011 and now we’re back.
Pouzza Fest is an early festival, taking place in May, how do you prefer for festival season?
It’s awesome. I haven’t played it yet with this band but played it a few years ago with my other band, Belvedere. Really great to be able to bounce from venue to venue and the weather is generally pleasant in Montreal at that time. I might also add that Montreal is one of my favourite cities.
Have you taken part in Pouzza Fest before? If so, what is your favourite memory?
See above. Favourite memory is playing fouf’s and hanging with Such Gold before the show.
The line-up at Pouzza Fest this year is stellar, who are you most excited to check out?
We’re only there Saturday so I have to run around and see Chixdiggit, The Creepshow, Reel Big Fish, Fire Next Time (of course), and Walt Hamburger right before we play.
Pouzza Fest’s name comes from the mashup of poutine and pizza, so I feel the need to know, which do you prefer?
Pizza is best for me, but poutine is always a treat when I get to Quebec.
Are you performing at any other festivals this summer that you’d like to tell us about?
We’re heading to Europe in August for a bunch of club shows and fests, – Braakrock, Tells Bells, Punk Rock Holiday and Xtremfest. Should be killer.
What five words would you use to describe your live show?
Fast, Fun, Rock, Paper, Scissors.
If you were asked to give advice to an up and coming artist, what would that advice be?
Play cause you like it and handle most of your own shit so someone else doesn’t take all the money.
What’s up next for you?
Europe with Standoff and a bunch of one-off shows with Belvedere over the summer. Gonna be a busy one!
