Vancouver-based pop/R&B artist, Alexis Lynn may be just about to release her debut single, “Promises” on May 4, but she’s no stranger to the Canadian music scene. In 2015, Alexis won “Best Original Song” and “Audience Favourite” at The Star Experience Songwriter Competition, then was a top 10 finalist for “She’s The One” competition at Ottawa Bluesfest, and was also chosen to perform at the Launch Festival in Vancouver. The fun continued in 2016 when Alexis Lynn was honoured as a Fraser Valley Award Nominee.
Although the single is only being released to the public on May 4, all you lucky Canadian Beats readers are getting an exclusive first listen. While you’re at it, be sure to check out our Five Questions With segment to find out more about this talented Canadian artist.
Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Hey everyone, I’m Alexis Lynn and I’m a 19-year-old Pop/R&B singer-songwriter from Vancouver, B.C.! I’m releasing my debut single “Promises” May 4th, which is currently available for pre-order, exclusively premiering now on Canadian Beats and when I’m not playing music, I’m doing yoga or hanging out with my family and friends!
Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.
My music is Pop/R&B but also draws instrumental influences from Hip-Hop. When it comes to writing, I love writing about personal experiences I’ve had but I also love telling stories, whether they’re mine or from another point of view.
Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?
Yes! You can find my upcoming shows on my website. My shows vary from venue to venue. Some smaller shows I play acoustically are super intimate and I get to really interact and connect with the audience. Other shows, I play with accompaniment or a band and it becomes really dynamic! I play piano and guitar as well so you definitely get to see a couple different sides of me as an artist.
If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?
“Promises” for sure!
Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?
I’m obsessed with Jessie Reyez right now! She and Shawn Mendes are killing it as young, Canadian, artists.
I’m Jenna, and I am the founder and editor of Canadian Beats. I have had a strong love for Canadian music, which started many years ago. I have a passion for promoting these talented Canadian bands and artists, and that’s how Canadian Beats came to be. I am so proud of what it has become over the last few years, with many talented music lovers and writers coming together to spread the word of Canada’s music.
