Who: Five Alarm Funk and DJ Shub
When: April 20, 2018
Where: The Commodore Ballroom, Vancouver BC
Well, holy moly, Vancouver based band Five Alarm Funk know how to funk it up like nobody else’s business. They turned the Commodore into one hell of a party on Friday night with their unique brand of action packed high energy funk/rock and an onstage presence that kept everybody on their feet.
Opening up the show was the Juno nominated DJ Shub who is a former member of A Tribe Called Red and an accomplished solo artist, he pounded out the beats for an hour and got the crowd good and warmed up for the hometown boys.
Five Alarm Funk made their way up to the stage and right away I knew this was going to be a special night. Eight multi-talented musicians with props and costumes in hand took their spots and began to dole out the funk, and the crowd loved every funk’n minute of it. With six albums under their belt and a fresh EP featuring Bootsy Collins, the fellas have lots of great music to choose from. For those of you that have never been to The Commodore, it’s got a famously bouncy dance floor and man was that dance floor bouncing on Friday night. And if you’ve never checked out Five Alarm Funk, do yourself a favour and have a listen, and then go see one of their killer live shows.
