Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Hi, we are The Burden from Prince George, BC. Our members are Jake Olexyn (Vocals), Devin Vassallo (Drums), Ross Vanosch (Bass), Rob Bacon (Guitar).
Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.
We play post-hardcore; pulling a lot of influence from our favourite bands in the genre from the late 90’s/early 2000’s. We’re all big fans of Underoath, and that gives us a lot of inspiration for how we write and structure our songs. We also all have our own individual tastes and influences that shape how we write. We keep our writing process very organic; we write all our songs with everyone together in our practice space.
Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?
We don’t have any upcoming shows announced yet, but we are working on some fun stuff for the spring and summer. We can’t wait to let everyone know about it, so stay tuned. We did however just play a show recently in Kelowna, BC with our good friends Living Machines. It was a sold-out event at The Habitat, it was pretty cool playing to around 250 people in a packed room.
If you haven’t seen us play live, the best way to describe what we do is high energy. We love putting 110% into our performance and getting the crowd engaged, whether is be singing along or moshing, we always encourage everyone to participate.
If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?
We just recently put out a brand new EP called The Presence of Past Tense. The opening track “Moving Pictures” is the single for the record, and we are all really proud of how that song turned out. It probably best encompasses everything about what we do.
Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?
No Liars, Widmore, Nothing Gold, Cardinals Pride, Air Combat, Kitsune, Bedroom Talk, Parting Ways, Seaway, Counterparts, Fall City Fall, Colour in the Clouds and Silverstein. (The list could probably keep going, but these are all just a few Canadian bands we’re both into listening to, and bands we know personally that we enjoy).
I’m Jenna, and I am the founder and editor of Canadian Beats. I have had a strong love for Canadian music, which started many years ago. I have a passion for promoting these talented Canadian bands and artists, and that’s how Canadian Beats came to be. I am so proud of what it has become over the last few years, with many talented music lovers and writers coming together to spread the word of Canada’s music.
