ECMA 2018 takes place from May 2-6 in Halifax, NS. With so many talented East Coast artists up for awards, we knew we had to chat with some of them in anticipation of the big event! Every week from now until May 4, we will be chatting with a nominee. First, we spoke with the progressive metal band, Tactus and then Clare, Nova Scotia-born, Jacques Jacobus. Today, we focus on New Brunswick’s own Christian rock band, Rekoncyle who are nominated in the Gospel Recording of the Year category at the 2018 ECMAs.
Take a moment to check out their lyric video for “Sacrifice” off of their EP, Desire.
First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Well, my name is Matt and I am the lead vocalist/guitarist in the band. In short, we’ve been a band since 2009, have released 2 full-length albums and our worship project to date, played a ton of shows, and lots of Christian radio airplay.
You are nominated for the East Coast Music Awards this year, what was your reaction when you found out you were nominated?
I was super surprised! I actually found out from a friend who had seen it before I did and he messaged me to say congratulations then I checked my email and YEP it was true!
Is this your first nomination? For the ECMA’s yes.
What are you most looking forward to at 2018 ECMAs in Halifax this May?
Honestly just being around the industry family and soaking it all in.
Do you have any memorable stories from previous ECMAs?
This will be our first!
Will you be performing anywhere that you can tell us about during the 2018 East Coast Music Awards, Festival & Conference?
We will just be attending, but not performing.
If someone has yet to catch you live, what can be expected from your live performance?
A good mix of serious rockin, intense worship, and then a ton of humour. 🙂
You are nominated up against many talented East Coast artists, who are you looking forward to checking out in Halifax?
I’m hoping to catch Joel Plaskett.
If you were asked to give an up-and-comer some advice, what would that advice be?
If it seems like artists pop up and become famous overnight you just haven’t dug deep enough to see the tireless backstory to that success. So work hard!
Speaking of up-and-coming East Coast artists, we are always happy to find new artists to check out, can you recommend any up-and-comers for us to check out?
2 actually. A friend of mine Kent Carter from Shediac and more friends Brack&Dan, a new duo.
Now’s your chance to plug your new music, tours or anything else, what do you have going on this year?
Just planning right now the release of our latest single “How Deep” as well as shooting a music video very soon for it. Also possibly an Ontario tour this fall.
Last but not least, is there anything you’d like to say to your fans?
Thank you for ALL your support and love. May God Bless You!
