Summer is just around the corner and with that, a ton of amazing festivals and Calgary’s own Decimate MetalFest is no exception. The festival will be taking over Distortion from June 7-10th.
Included in this year’s line-up are a ton of great metal acts from across Western Canada and beyond. Though the majority of the lineup is from Calgary with bands such as World Class White Trash, Benevolent Like Quietus, Citizen Rage and Widows Peak. The festival is also welcoming bands from across the country and the US, including Filth (Shelby, NC), Insvrgence (Austin, TX), and Loser (Detroit, MI).
Filth hailing from North Carolina and bringing their downtempo deathcore scene with them. Born in 2015 the band has given listeners exactly what is expected. Be prepared to welcome these guys and have your eardrums jackhammered.
Insvrgence is coming in from Austin, Texas. These hardcore legends are coming in with a vengeance. With the political issues rising this band is just gaining fuel for the show. With their breakdowns, don’t be expecting to be standing still during their set. The energy brought out by these guys is infectious and you’re bound to have a few sore muscles after the show and to view politics from a different angle.
Loser from Detroit is a band for fans of nu-metal. This band brings flavours of Slipknot, Deftones, Korn, and Nirvana in for their fans. With a different twist of the genres as well as bringing variety to the festival this four-piece will still bring the same energy as the rest.
With so many amazing bands, don’t wait to grab tickets. Tickets are on sale now. Advanced prices will be on until March 13th. Door tickets will also be available. I’m Phil and 27 years old. I’ve been involved with music as long as I can remember. I’ve worked as a backstage hand, stage crew, street-teamer with Union Events and various labels, been in and out of bands and started my own magazine; Attainable Magazine. In which I focus on band interviews and had the opportunity to sit down with names such as William Control, Real Mackenzies and I Prevail. As well photograph others such as August Burns Red, Silverstein, and Protest the Hero. Though I tend to gravitate towards the heavier styles; punk, metal, hardcore, and so forth. I do end up at any other show I can get too. I originally had gone to university to pursue broadcasting with a minor in photo-journalism but after a year left to continue to purse music on my own terms. If I’m not at a show, I’m either at a record store adding to my ever growing collection. In my free time I also model and practice body-suspension. You can always feel free to contact me on my other social medias.
