When asked about the video, Alex MacNeil commented,
“The video was made by the great talent, Stephanie Clattenburg, in the style of the golden age of Karaoke videos. Experts will recognize the effort she put into finding the best free stock footage on the internet to match the mood and style of the song. Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
My name is Alex MacNeil and I am the singer, songwriter, guitar-slinger and socialite-leader of the humbly-named Alexander and the Great Ones.
Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.
I love new-wave, soul, The Beatles, and The Beach Boys. My writing style is right handed, I hold the pen between my thumb, second and third finger. It is kind of a blend between handwriting and printing. Graphologists describe my writing as that of someone truly deprave.
Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?
I do. You can catch me on St.Patrick’s Day at Gus’ pub as part of their all-day bash as well as May 25th at Menz and Mollyz. More dates this spring and summer yet announced. My live show is quite dramatic and full of highs and lows. If I can, I’ll make you dance, laugh and feel something.
If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?
My most recent single, “Becca”, is a favourite for me. But tomorrow and the next day I hope there are more songs to take its place.
Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?
My favourite Canadian artist is Joni Mitchell because she is easily the best songwriter of all time. But to give a contemporary answer, I adore The Brood. Tune for tune they are the best creative force out there and their live show is really special.
I’m Jenna, and I am the founder and editor of Canadian Beats. I have had a strong love for Canadian music, which started many years ago. I have a passion for promoting these talented Canadian bands and artists, and that’s how Canadian Beats came to be. I am so proud of what it has become over the last few years, with many talented music lovers and writers coming together to spread the word of Canada’s music.
