This wasn’t your first trip to the Grammy Awards. Does it get any less exciting the second time around?

It is always exciting for me. I am an independent artist and to be nominated means a lot every time.

What was the highlight of your trip?

This time I did things a little bit differently. I took my family with me and it was just wonderful to be in NYC with my kids and my wife.

Your songs really touch a person’s soul, where do you get the inspiration for your songwriting?

Inspiration remains something very mystical to me. The more I think I know where it comes from,  the more it keeps surprising me in different ways. The best I can say is that I seem to be in my most creative mode when I’m happy and in tune with who I am.

Your new album Lo Único Constante is nothing short of amazing, can you tell us a little bit about the making of the album?

Well, thank you very much. I wrote most of the album in the summer, and that is probably noticeable. I usually write more in the winter because summer is always busy, but I had a couple of weeks off two summers ago and a lot of the album came together in those two weeks.

How does this release differ from your previous?

With every release, keep noticing how essential my songwriting is getting, how direct and straight to the point. I guess I can say that this is the most essential album I’ve done to date.

You have some tour dates lined up, what can your fans expect to see at your shows?

Besides hearing some of their favourite songs I will say a show that takes them from Canada to Cuba and back.

Can fans in the rest of Canadian expect upcoming tour dates?

Yes of course. I’ll be in Ontario in April and festivals in the summer. I’ll be in the US May and June.

If you could collaborate with any Canadian artist(s), who would it be?

It will be Jessie Reyez

What was the first concert you ever saw?

Dizzy Gillespie and Arturo Sandoval in Havana, when I was around 8 or 9 years old.

What is your biggest pet peeve?

To be on the phone and hear the sound of running water on the other side. Ya, I know  – weird.

What’s up next for you?

This year I’m working on a few collaborations with amazing artists from Latin America that I like very much what they do and respect their artistic integrity.

Last but not least, do you have anything you would like to say to your fans?
