Who: The Sheepdogs & Sam Coffey and the Iron Lungs
When: February 15, 2018
Where: The Commodore Ballroom, Vancouver BC
The Sheepdogs are touring our great nation from coast to coast to support their new album Changing Colours. The band of five bring to the stage six rocking albums and a couple of ep’s worth of guitar driven, down south, feel-good singalong music. It’s always a good time to see them at Vancouver’s Commodore Ballroom. The first show sold out quickly so they added a second to meet demand.
This time around they brought Sam Coffey & The Iron Lungs to open up for them on the roughly thirty show tour. Sam and the Boys are a power pop band from Toronto that made their way up through the punk scene and have developed their own sound which Coffey calls “downtown music”. They pounded out a kick-ass 40-minute set that got the crowd warmed up real good and ready for the headliners.
Then it was time for The Sheepdogs to take the stage, and the fans were ready. We were treated to a mix of old and new during the hour and a half set and then a wicked encore that included Shamus belting out a killer cover of “Hold Your Head Up” by Argent. They finished off with “Ramblin’ Man” by the Allman Brothers which closed out another awesome show by The Sheepdogs.
