Sound of Pop is pleased to announce they have signed a publishing deal with Newfoundland award-winning electronic artist Happy Beats. The deal includes both full-length releases Volume 1 and Volume 2.
Glenn McMullen from Sound of Pop said:
“I was familiar with Michael’s work in the rock band Cabbages and Kings, but was particularly intrigued by his 180 venture into the world of electronic music. Reading about his nomination (at that time) for the 2017 Music NL “Electronic Artist of the Year” gave me the extra push in a busy schedule to really sit down with the latest release on repeat. It was one of those slow burn listening experiences where the more you heard the songs the more you appreciated them. I then went back to re-listen to the first record and thought it also had a lot of potential. We met in person again at the (2017) Music NL conference in St. John’s and got to sit down and brainstorm some ideas for future collaborative projects as well as exploring sync opportunities in film, television and the web for the two full-length releases. For the record, Michael has inserted a clause in the contract that SOP can never force him to wear a giant “happy face” helmet over his head for any and all future performances. That was the exact moment I knew this was gonna work out just fine.”
Happy Beats is the award-winning solo electronic project by recording artist/producer Michael Kirby. Based on simple drum beats overlaid with catchy synth and guitar melodies, Happy Beats is all about creating a mood of relaxation and positive vibes for the listener. Volume 2 is the second full-length release under the Happy Beats name and is a refreshing break from Michael’s usual work in the rock scene of Newfoundland, Canada where he plays with Cabbages and Kings. Happy Beats is the recent Winner of the Music NL 2017 “Electronic Artist of the Year” award. Michael Kirby had this to say: “I’m more than elated to sign with SOP on behalf of Happy Beats! I can’t wait to see where this journey takes me and couldn’t imagine a better team to be aligned with!”
I’m Tara and I’m a graphic designer from Newfoundland. I am very fortunate to live in a city where there is a ton of amazing musicians. I’ve grown very fond of the local music scene in St. John’s and some of my favorite bands are ones I’ve met through going to local shows.
