Today is a big day for Regina based indie pop/ r&b artist, Davy Sage. He is releasing his first single of 2018, “Let Them” ft D4WN, and here at Canadian Beats, we are happy to be your source to check it out! We also had a chat with him through Five Questions With, which you can take a peek at below.
Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Hi wonderful people, my name is Davy Sage, Nigerian Pop & RnB artist and songwriter reporting from Regina Saskatchewan “Land of the living skies”
Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.
My music is a mix of Pop & RnB with Afro-beats and Dancehall elements. I love to write about things that evolve around me and sometimes fantasies. And because of my urban upbeat style, I also get the opportunity to collaborate with artists from different genres.
I developed my writing skills as a poet back in high school when I was 15 years old and luckily for me my brother being a DJ and always rehearsing and spinning records at home back then gave me the opportunity to listen to different genres right from Afro-beats, hip-hop, RnB, soul and so on. Being a part of my church worship team back then also helped me develop as a singer and songwriter. So I can honestly say, its been a long time coming.
Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?
Yes, last year was amazing! I got to perform in a few Canadian music festivals and Indie Music Week in Toronto. I’m looking forward to a great 2018 and I’m starting it off with a performance at the 5th Edmonton African Fashion Week on February 18th. Then I’ve got other shows and tours lined for my much-anticipated EP titled “Identity” scheduled for release this summer.
I describe myself on stage as an energetic and engaging artist that like to connect with my audience and give them a night to remember for a long time.
If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?
Honestly, every track I dropped always put me on the next level with great reviews from fans and blogs. But right now “Let Them” Ft. D4wn which is my first release in 2018 is one track that I’ll suggest to my audience to go check out. The production, the lyrics, melody and vibe of this track are just amazing.
Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?
I’m a big fan of Canadian music scene and it’s flooded with amazing talent from different genres. As a big fan of Indie music, I’ve got a long list of favourite artists killing it out there. But also seeing artists like Drake, Tory Lanez, and The Weeknd from the business side of music really inspires me a lot even though they are partners with major labels. Lol
I’m Jenna, and I am the founder and editor of Canadian Beats. I have had a strong love for Canadian music, which started many years ago. I have a passion for promoting these talented Canadian bands and artists, and that’s how Canadian Beats came to be. I am so proud of what it has become over the last few years, with many talented music lovers and writers coming together to spread the word of Canada’s music.
