Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

Hi! My name’s Wade and I sing/write in a band called Written Years. We’re from Vancouver, BC.

Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.

We try to write songs with a lot of feeling and we’re not afraid to get a little sentimental sometimes. We like to shine some light on a bunch of dark little corners and see what comes up. On another level, though, the music is pretty dancey – you could probably call it alt dance or something like that. Hmmm…

Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?

We’ve spent such a long time in the studio, getting these songs to a place where we love them as much as we do now. Next comes the live show – may or may not know anything just yet but I can tell you we’re working very hard on it and can’t wait to show what we’ve come up with!

If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?

Well, no contest, that has to be our debut single, ‘Lost In You Now’! We even have a video out today 😉 – which we’re very happy to have you on board debuting with us. The video is weird, it’s almost a documentary – I hope your readers enjoy it!

Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?

Weakerthans are always the first thing that comes to mind for me. John K Samson is such an incredible writer and Left & Leaving still holds in my top 10 records. I want to also say that there are some amazing things happening around us in Vancouver right now. My good friend Jamie plays in a great beachy band called Leisure Club, he sang a few songs in the studio with us awhile back. Also, my friend Justice has a great thing going on under the name Blue J. Dear Rouge too – we’ve had the really cool opportunity of sharing a producer with them. There’s more…lots more…I’ll go on a tangent so I’ll stop there but, the point is, a ton of great things happening over here on the West Coast.
