We recently had a brief chat with Toronto based electronic-pop artist, BRDGS. Check out his brand new video for “In The Wild” and find out more about this up-and-coming Canadian talent in our newest segment of Five Questions With.
Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Hi! My name is Jon Pike, I’m a singer/songwriter/producer and I perform under the name BRDGS. I’m originally from Steady Brook, Newfoundland but I’ve travelled across the country performing in every province and now call Toronto home. My songs under BRDGS are heavily influenced by electronic music, but I like to feature organic elements like pianos and guitars while focusing on honest heartfelt lyrics and melodies.
Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.
I love to experiment with a lot of different styles and flavours in my music, but generally, it falls under the blanket of electronic pop. I draw influence from a lot of artists I like, some of my favourite acts being rock, pop punk, ska, r&b and of course pop. I really love writing music for BRDGS because I get to try really hard to say kind of obvious things but to say them in a way that doesn’t come across as cheesy. I love that challenge, because BRDGS is all about straightforward positivity and honesty, and a lot of that topical area has been sung about a million times, so finding a fresh way to be really direct is really hard but super rewarding.
Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?
There aren’t any live shows announced as of right now! But there will be a bunch in the coming year and I hope to see you all at the shows!!
For BRDGS I perform with a good friend of mine who’s an absolute monster on the drums. During the show I play a bit of piano, I play a bit of drums, we do some cool drum battle stuff and get as crazy as we can. And throughout I really love to engage the audience and get everyone singing, because when I see a show that’s my favourite thing – singing along with the whole crowd. It’s high energy and super exciting and I can NOT wait to bring the show on the road.
If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?
For a new listener, I’d definitely suggest checking out In the Wild. It’s the song I’m proudest of and has really been connecting with people on radio and across the country. It’s a big energy, super motivational tune that hopefully will get annoyingly stuck in your head. Hahah.
Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?
This is the hardest question of the lot! I feel like I don’t wanna name any because no matter what I’ll end up leaving people out. Haha. There’s so many dope Canadian acts taking over right now- in the past month I’ve been listening to a ton of Daniel Caesar, Alessia Cara, Neon Dreams, and PartyNextDoor. I could fill out a LOT of pages of other Canadian acts that I love but I’m gonna leave it there haha.

I’m Jenna, the founder and editor of Canadian Beats. I have had a strong love for Canadian music, which started many years ago. I have a passion for promoting these talented Canadian bands and artists, and that’s how Canadian Beats came to be.
Canadian Beats has grown to become more than media, and what a journey it’s been.
