We recently had a chat with Hamilton’s CVSS for our newest segment of Five Questions With. CVSS released a single entitled “Bang” featuring Karl Wolf which has reached 120,000 streams on Spotify. Take a listen to the single below, and take some time to find out more about CVSS.
Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
My name is CVSS (Cass) – I flip the A upside down into a V to be a little different – a little Creative and easier to find on digital platforms etc
Full name is Cvss Hvmilton – born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Was born into music – my father was a DJ and I would fall asleep to the thump of base – been hooked ever since!
Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.
I like to talk about experiences that got me to where I am today – I also like to talk about the journey and where I want it to take me. Its hard for me to just pick a theme and write lyrics to that – I have to feel the music, it has to be real to me … so maybe its “reality rap” to some, but to me, it’s my life.
Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?
I am opening for Sean Kingston on Dec 9th in Oshawa, and Dec 11 in Hamilton. I am also debuting a new single with rap legend and pioneer Choclair on Nov 19th at Adelaide hall at the “Find your Fierce” event – it will be epic … also doing a show and donating to the hip-hop food drive in Dec … we try to be everywhere we can be and 2018 will be a monster year for me and the Whole Rolling Rich Records team.
I try to be as entertaining as possible – a lot of my songs have a high energy to them, you can dance to them – some rap tracks have a harder telling hard stories edge for those who like that and a few mellow songs so I can show how versatile I am of an artist – like 40k ft Peter Jackson about to be released.
If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?
Tough question – depends on your preference – for a dance club banger I suggest BANG Ft Karl Wolf … for a hard-hitting rap song I suggest CLEAN of the selfish ways album … then there are a few in the middle like RAIN or TOO CLOSE that have done very well commercially … My music reflects my mood at that time and I think people are attracted to tracks that reflect their mood at the time of listening.
Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?
Canada has so many greats which by the way never surprised me – being in the industry I see so much talent yet to be discovered … Canada is not just on the map, Canadians are shaping it – got to take my hat off to Drake for busting he hip hop doors open wide and paving the way for potential global exposure – but without legends and pioneers like Choclair, Kardinal Offishall, Mishy Me and Maestro Fresh Wes none of us would be here … they did the heavy lifting for us and for that I am, and every other Canadian artist should be, forever grateful.
I’m Jenna, and I am the founder and editor of Canadian Beats. I have had a strong love for Canadian music, which started many years ago. I have a passion for promoting these talented Canadian bands and artists, and that’s how Canadian Beats came to be. I am so proud of what it has become over the last few years, with many talented music lovers and writers coming together to spread the word of Canada’s music.
