Toronto’s own Mattie Leon has released the second single off of his upcoming album, Signal Hill which is set for release on November 2, 2017. We are happy to premiere the video for “Bowery” today. When we asked Mattie about the single and video, he commented,
“Lyrically the song deals with the way that time can slowly pull people apart. In this instance the words are from the point of view of a guy explaining to his significant other that time has changed him into someone unworthy of her love.
Musically it centres around my fingerpicked guitar riff that builds with tension to an emotional and distorted climax in the bridge.
Its the darkest song off of the new record for sure. I think it feels as if Nathan Followill was called in to play drums on a Bruce Cockburn tune. And I love that. Mike, my brother and drummer, did a bang up job on this one. <
The video stars Toronto’s wonderfully talented Charlotte Dennis as she plays the woman responding to the singer’s realizations in real time. It was stunning to watch her bring the world of the song to life.”
You can catch Mattie at The Rivoli in Toronto on November 10 for the Signal Hill release party, where he’ll be joined by Scott Goodwin, West Hammock and Stefanie Parnell. The record will be available digitally as of Nov 2 and on vinyl at select record stores in Toronto and at shows.
