Toronto based Alex Pangman is known by many as “Canada’s Sweetheart of Swing”, and this Juno nominee certainly lives up to that moniker. Alex will be releasing her upcoming album, Hot Three on November 10, although it will be on iTunes on November 3. In advance of the release, she has given us the opportunity to premiere her newest single and accompanying video for “Sweethearts on Parade”, which you can see below.
When we asked Alex about the video, she states,
“I love that this video starts by showing both camaraderie and location. We literally recorded in that little house beside the road in New Orleans. You can hear the train whistle at the end of the take, through the walls. It was so real! I wanted folks to see the needle drop on the disc when we start the take to bring everyone along for the ride. You can see us smiling, sharing that one tiny microphone, see the groove cuttings building up around the spindle, the 78s lined up on the mantle… you can see the “room sound”. The whole experience made me understand how early recording artists might have felt when they cut a side. Of course, their engineer probably didn’t peek at his iPhone during their takes. But then, that’s part of why the video & project is a beautiful anachronism. The vid captures that warmth, happiness, and inspiration we felt as a group!”
Release Parties for Hot Three:
November 15 @ Supermarket in Toronto ON
November 24 @ Upstairs Jazz in Montreal QC
