Citizens of Barrie came out on Labour Day weekend to the city’s waterfront to celebrate Canada 150 for Illuminate Barrie. This two-day festival featured all things Canadian, both past and present, with live entertainment, food vendors, heritage demonstrations and one of the best display of fireworks the city has ever witnessed. Illuminate Barrie was one of several events taking place around the region this summer and we had a blast soaking up the fleeting moments of the summer of 2017.
So much talent was showcased on the stage, all weekend long! Saturday’s rock ‘n’ roll flavour was hosted by Rock 95 and featured the talents of a few local bands including The Noolands, before Dear Rouge and Hollerado capped off the night. On Sunday, the music shifted gears to country with KICX 106 on board. The self-described wild and spirited Dani Strong performed with her band of merry musicians and Andrew Hyatt had the honour of closing out the festival with his brand of stick-to-your-ribs rock/country.

I’m Nicole, a biology teacher by day, but my life revolves around music. I’m that girl that you will always find with the concert t-shirt on and ear buds in. It is rare that you find me without some type of music playing in the background. I connect all of my life experiences to music. It truly has its own language in my heart. There is nothing more exciting than taking in all that a concert has to offer. I love to support local Canadian acts and attend as many shows that I can.
