We have recently had the chance to chat with Québec’s own, Durham County Poets. Our newest segment of Five Questions With will give you some insight about the band, and more! If you’re able to catch them on any of their tour dates, you certainly should. They have their Ontario launch on Sunday, September 10 at Free Times Cafe in Toronto, which will surely be a blast.
Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Hello, we are 5 musician friends from the Chateauguay Valley in Québec and have been together over 5 years now. We just released our third album, and love touring with all the adventures that brings. We have played in New York City, New Jersey, Mass, Conn, Maryland, Vermont, all over Québec, Ontario, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.
Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.
We can’t nail it down to one style, although folk/blues comes closest probably. We also have rock, R&B, country styles, gospel, jump blues and old time jazz to boot. Everyone in the band has their own background and we all contribute music/and or lyrics, arrangements, etc.

If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?
The title track of our new album, Grimshaw Road. It’s a real, spooky place, and it’s got amazing slide guitar.
Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?
The Band! Suzie Vinnick! Michael Jerome Browne! they’ve all played on our new record! (OK, not The Band…) lots more, we meet amazing Canadians every festival we play at. And we have a special place in our hearts for Penny Lang, we played at her tribute concert last June and backed up a bunch of great folkies.
I’m Jenna, and I am the founder and editor of Canadian Beats. I have had a strong love for Canadian music, which started many years ago. I have a passion for promoting these talented Canadian bands and artists, and that’s how Canadian Beats came to be. I am so proud of what it has become over the last few years, with many talented music lovers and writers coming together to spread the word of Canada’s music.
