Emily Rowed had her debut EP release party for Electric Heart on the 604 Soundstage at 604 Records last Wednesday night and I was lucky enough to get an invite to cover the show. Emily is a beautiful woman with a beautiful voice to match. She was accompanied on stage by the multi talented Mike Young of Mother Mother who showed off his skills on the keyboards, synth, piano, and upright bass to provide the perfect background for Emily’s strong unique voice and vocal stylings. Taking in the roughly 45 minute set in the intimate record studio was such a great way to experience Emily’s music and see her raw talent. She reminded me in ways of Dido, Norah Jones, and even Adele, but she has a uniqueness and original quality that makes her stand out as her own. Emily sang us about ten songs including some new unreleased tunes and an acoustic version of Electric off the new EP which was my favourite song of the night, she demonstrated her guitar playing abilities during that one too. Three of Emily’s friends and fellow performers Sam Lynch, Cassidy Waring, and Matthew V came up and  joined her for a beautiful a cappella number and the crowd loved the way they sounded together. The last song of the night was Rubies which has a bit of a rap beat but still keeps consistent with the flow of Emily’s music, the crowd applauded at the end and Emily said her thank you’s to everyone that came to show their support for her. What a great night of new music it was!
