As tens of thousands converged upon Montreal’s Ile Notre Dame for the 2017 installment of Osheaga Music and Arts Festival the theme for the day was rain. As far as the eye could see umbrellas and rain ponchos of every colour abounded, and yet despite torrential downpours off and on throughout the day and night and programming delays because of the inclement weather, the mood of the crowd remained upbeat. Artists and fans alike toughed it out together and the day resulted in some stellar performances piqued with a heightened sense of camaraderie for the shared discomfort in the name of music.
With so much to see and do and 6 stages to choose from it’s always impossible to take in everything at a festival like Osheaga but the definite highlights of the day both came from UK artists. First the soulful, heartfelt set from Rag n’ Bone Man during one of the heaviest parts of the thunderstorms had everyone in the audience enraptured. Secondly, headliner Lorde put on a one of her best performances to date which was met every step of the way from appreciative fans
With better weather in the forecast day 2 and 3 are guaranteed to be even better.
