The Sampler is intended to introduce Dine Alone’s impressive stable to new listeners, and it’s a testament to their musical pedigree that the 26 tracks hold together in a beautiful coherent way considering the range of genres covers everything from Blues/Soul/Electro/Punk/Surf all with an indie twinge.
There is way too much to digest in a first sitting, but at the time of writing, Canadian Beats is thrilled to discover Chimney, and the track ‘Walk Down Run’. Melodic, and drenched in guitar laden riff reverb. Quite magnificent. We also love ‘Dance with the Devil’ by The Swears and ‘This Time’ by Land of Talk that veers heavily into Alvvays/Cranberries territory. It has certainly planted the seed to delve and learn more.
‘Jah Werx’ by Susto captures the 2017 Summer vibes perfectly, and upbeat raucous tracks by The Sadies, The Dirty Nil and established artists like BROS and City & Colour add some great pop/mellower sensibilities.
Our favorite song on the whole album, and the one that has been played on repeat since the album dropped is The New Pornographers, ‘White Out Conditions’ the title track of their new album of the same name. We’re a sucker for a male/female lead and with its driving melodic guitar-bed atop an eighties synth backing, its an anthem in the making!
Simply put….download the album for free and discover your new favorite band.

Hi, I’m originally from the UK; born between the music cities of Liverpool & Manchester, and have been playing guitar and going to see live music ever since High School. Arena gigs are good, but nothing beats the small intimate venues that showcase the talent and energy when a band is just starting out. I love all kinds of music, particularly guitar bands like the Smiths, the Cure, Lemonheads through to the likes of Modest Mouse, July Talk and Catfish & the Bottlemen….oh and coming from Liverpool, I have to say the Beatles!
I have been a Graphic Designer for over 20 years, I love music and I love a good album cover (check out Peter Saville’s creations). Since moving to Halifax, NS in 2009, I have started to write my first music book, and it’s a pleasure to join the talented team at Canadian Beats!
