Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Hey I’m Dani Robert! I’m a singer/songwriter based out of Toronto, Ontario, Canada and originally from the farmlands of Pain Court. I currently am managed by AMAG and I’ve been in the studio with them for the past year and a bit working on new music. We just released my debut single ‘Clouds’ which has been getting awesome response!
Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.
My music and writing style has definitely evolved as I have evolved as a person. It’s incredible to consider that music can’t escape the artist and the artist can’t escape the music. It all comes through in the sound. My music is sort of a blend of indie/folk and Pop/EDM. Some would say its Lorde meets Sarah McLachlan. A lot of my songs are piano-based, which is how I fell in love with music in the first place, the piano. My writing style is grounded in my life experiences and my faith, as I generate creative ways to reflect the world around us. I am so happy with the expansion of the sound we have going on, which wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible team I am working with today.
Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?
My next performance will be in Montreal at the Four Industry Gala on August 31st, come check it out – I would love to see you there! I’m looking forward to performing more, after spending a lot of time in the studio. Just recently, I returned home to Pain Court to do a press run and did a few performances there, which was really heart-warming and exciting! We are currently discussing the possibility of a tour in the future as we’ve been blown away by the success of “Clouds” and the number of global listeners. Along with Toronto, Sweden and Japan are among our top listeners, so we may have to pay a visit. You can definitely expect the fundamental use of piano in all my performances but be ready to have fun and get to know me, that’s the best way to explain it!
If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?
I would suggest listening to my single “Clouds” – this song represents my style and has some great summer vibes! I’m just so humbled by how well it’s been received. More music is on the way. “Clouds” is the first of many to come!
Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?
Right now, my favourite Canadian artist is Alessia Cara. I love what she stands for, her look, her genuine spirit and of course her pure talent that’s reached a global platform. It’s truly inspiring to be in a music community in Toronto where she’s one of my peers. Sarah McLachlan will always be one of my favourite Canadian artists also, as I’ve listened to her since I was little. Her sophisticated songwriting, ability to capture a feeling and tell a story is truly remarkable!
I’m Jenna, and I am the founder and editor of Canadian Beats. I have had a strong love for Canadian music, which started many years ago. I have a passion for promoting these talented Canadian bands and artists, and that’s how Canadian Beats came to be. I am so proud of what it has become over the last few years, with many talented music lovers and writers coming together to spread the word of Canada’s music.
