Up close and ONtour with Andrew Hyatt

Ontario is celebrating its sesquicentennial anniversary in style.  All year long, the province is marking 150 years with events across the province.  ONtour is a free and all ages concert series that is stopping at more than 20 communities across Ontario featuring some pretty amazing Ontario musicians.  We have the pleasure of introducing you to some of this homegrown talent with interviews leading up to their performances.

On Sunday, July 16, Sudbury-native, Andrew Hyatt will be performing his own brand of rock and country music in Sault Ste. Marie for that leg of the tour.  Other performers include The Tea Party, USS and Mclean.  Andrew describes himself as having Nickel bones with a Nashville soul and is excited to share with our readers, some of his favourite aspects of living in Ontario.  For more information on his upcoming show, check out the Facebook event!

Hey guys, I’m Andrew Hyatt!
What part of Ontario are you from and/or currently reside in?
Born and raised in Sudbury, currently back in the Nickel whenever I’m off!
You have been selected to be a performer in the ONTour Concert Series, an event to help celebrate Ontario’s 150th Anniversary.  How does it feel to be part of this event?
I think it’s great.  I love that live music is being represented as part of the Ontario 150 celebrations and we are happy to be included in it :).
Ontario’s motto for many years has been, “Yours to discover”.  What is your favourite place to explore?
I love the hidden gems
The falls in Hamilton
The Elora gorge
Pretty much any of our outdoor sanctuaries that we are fortunate enough to have.
Touring as a musician has likely brought you to many unique locations to dine in.  In your opinion, what is Ontario’s best kept secret to eat at?
I could go on and on… I’m a fat kid at heart
What is your favourite Ontario music festival or venue?
I’m not sure I have one.  I think each festival brings something different and we love that!  The Phoenix in Toronto is my favourite venue.  It’s been amazing to play!
There are so many talented artists who are taking part in this special tour.  Who are you excited to check out?
Honestly so many of my friends are playing!
Jessica Mitchell
Meghan Patrick
The River Town Saints and that guitar player guy who hangs out with them named Jeremy Bortot
Kira Isabella
The James Barker band
Those are the bands country music fans should be excited for!
Are you performing at any other music festivals this summer that you would like to tell us about?
Boots and Hearts is a big one!  Looking forward to that as well as many others.
Check out andrewhyattmusic.com to find out the others.
What does the rest of 2017 look like for you?
One giant lack of sleep… and I couldn’t be happier about it!
Why are you proud to be an Ontarian?
I love the people, I love what we offer as a province in culture and landscape!
